Colored Gemstone Jewelry

Fine colored gemstones are both rare and beautiful. Holding a top grade ruby or sapphire or spinel in your fingers and turning it in the light reveals its brilliance and luster. But high quality gems really come alive when set in fine jewelry. Even many gem collectors and investors prefer to have their gems set in jewelry.

A well-designed jewelry setting can enhance the qualities of a gemstone, and even a medium-grade stone usually looks better when mounted. A ruby set in yellow gold, for example, will look more red. Blue sapphires, on the other hand, look best when set in white gold or platinum. White diamonds enhance most colored gems by providing sparkle and contrast.

We handle hundreds of gems every day and are expert at evaluating quality. But even we are often surprised and delighted at the results when we have one of our gems mounted in fine jewelry. From time to time we work with some of the leading custom jewelers in Bangkok to design jewelry for some of our finest gems. We offer these exceptional one-of-a-kind pieces to our customers and occasionally put them up for auction at Sotheby's or Christie's. They also serve as excellent examples of the virtues of buying loose gemstones.

When you buy a loose gemstone rather than one already set in jewelry, you have the widest possible selection of colors, shapes and sizes. You also have an opportunity to examine the gem before it is set, so you can be sure of the quality of the stone you are buying. You can then work with the jeweler of your choice to produce a design that fits your personal taste and budget, and that your family will treasure for generations.
